From the sepia-toned basement cafe in ‘Before The Coffee Gets Cold’, to Keiko’s long-standing workplace from ‘Convenience Store Woman’ in which she worked for over 15 years, to Eriko and Yuichi’s apartment kitchen from Banana Yoshimoto’s story heartwarming story on love and loss, committing these imagined spaces to lines and filling in the gaps left between the authors’ words are drawn through personal interpretations of space, surrounding memory, identity, and whimsy.
